Delivering eLearning in a Whole New Package
6.18.2006

Synchronous versus asynchronous. Face-to-face versus virtual learning.? Trainer dependence versus self- assimilation. The distinctions between the traditional ?classroom? type learning and the sophisticated academic technology now coined as ?e-Learning? are boundless. Yet today, the magnitude of its popularity is dependent not only on its mere existence but its efficacy to knowledge management and the means by which it is delivered.

?Business 101? asserts that e-Learning has become a fundamental component of global commerce. This recognition paved the way for competition among e-Learning advocates: Which approach serves best when deployed? What modalities would suit the demands of the learners??

This proverbial issue propounded the challenge for ECCI Solutions ? an up-and-coming firm specializing in facilitating knowledge dissemination. The company thrives on knitting information into a web of multimedia outfits for cogent delivery, pointing towards total business process improvement and leveraging on industry best practices.

ECCI Solutions was a spin-off from the larger ECC International Group of Companies, which is one of Asia?s finest consulting and products company specializing in Quality and Business Process Improvement.?

Among the company?s host of custom knowledge solutions is a range e-Learning products designed to assist organizations in mapping out and aligning current practices with industry standards and global best practices. The products draw on ECCI?s core competency in management systems consulting. These products are called ?K-Transfer? or plainly knowledge transfer ? literally means conveying information through user-friendly application tools.

These are bundled tools, typically ?boxed? products in CD-ROM format with interactive voice and video features, supplemented with user guide books. The all too-common collaborative technologies more known as Computer-Based Training (CBT) tools are structured in a linear fashion to direct ?viewers? to one specific learning goal and offers flexibility to enable them navigate [the learning course] based on their needs.

The company?s most recent product offering is the ?Trainers and Implementers Companion (TIC), which is specifically designed to redefine a typical training session. The complete toolkit is comprised of various collaterals required by the corporate trainers, among which include general trainer?s guide and presentations for trainers, exercises, reference materials, glossary, printables, templates (forms, trainer?s tools, etc), quick reference cards and signages / stickers.

The term CBT often elicit visions of a plain course or ?page-turner? that is distributed on CD-ROM format, as mentioned, for learners to take a self-paced asynchronous course. However, the challenges posed by its evolving importance in the current business setting have called for a paradigm shift in its modalities or the means by which it is presented to the learning community. And ECCI Solutions is gearing towards this direction.?

Today, we enthusiastically embrace the use of e-Learning technologies as long as it bolsters the very foundations of the academic populace. In the near future, knowledge advocates would want it to be revolutionized and established to demonstrate the real value of technological sophistication. ?
